Emotion + Text= ?

I am really interested in the human expression, drawing these emotions i have started to explore all the small details that happen to the face when in different emotions. I have combined the expressions with words that could be said or thought when in the moment of the strange encounter. These words all express the feeling of the person, An act of disbelief and shock when saying these words.

Emotions

I am currently measuring how peoples emotions change in the strange encounters I am collecting off people. The emotions are all very disturbed, showing the individual in an uncomfortable situation. I have recorded my own face to show how the different expressions can look. I want to record other peoples faces to get an idea of how people react. With these images I have had an idea to illustrate not the encounter but the reaction of the person who experiences it, as they are the ones who consider the instant to be strange.

Paula Rego

These images where made by using the technique etching. This way of illustrating gives you as the artist the ability to draw with only lines, for shade you can build the lines by criss-crossing, this gives you a great depth of shade and  space.

I have chosen to look at these paintings in particular, because they are some of Paula Regos darker paintings. She had taken a few  well known fairy tales and in turn illustrated them in a disturbing way, putting them out of context by using what should be children's stories, these etchings wouldn't be subjected to children.

I want to reflect on this style and be influenced by the way that Paula has successfully illustrated one image that represents the children's nursery rhyme, showing the within the image. Capturing the dark and irreverent way she draws the scenes and the great the use of shade.
