Paula Rego

These images where made by using the technique etching. This way of illustrating gives you as the artist the ability to draw with only lines, for shade you can build the lines by criss-crossing, this gives you a great depth of shade and  space.

I have chosen to look at these paintings in particular, because they are some of Paula Regos darker paintings. She had taken a few  well known fairy tales and in turn illustrated them in a disturbing way, putting them out of context by using what should be children's stories, these etchings wouldn't be subjected to children.

I want to reflect on this style and be influenced by the way that Paula has successfully illustrated one image that represents the children's nursery rhyme, showing the within the image. Capturing the dark and irreverent way she draws the scenes and the great the use of shade.
