Using Google Maps Jennifer Maravills has created these brilliant detailed maps. It gives her the ability to see the land we inhabit from above. Enabling her to zoom in and out, viewing the lives of our cities are apparent in the purposes we assign to the land and the histories we decide. She sees the world from above, the patterns of divided spaces give voice to a specific areas and their histories. Jennifer believes each city is a creature with a personality defined by geography, past decisions and biological systems.
'At the heart are the heights in which we reflect on the past and the beauty of the present. Any one moment in which thousands of our neighbors are climbing the hill that millions have previously. It is an urban environment built on exploring the nature of ourselves and the world.'
Jennifer Maravillas
I really love her technique of separating the hole country into cities. Which she divides into separate colours. This is forming a detailed pattern, showing an arial view as seen on Google maps or out of a plane window. Her work reminds me of my past plane rides, looking out of the window at the world which always looks like patchwork. All the different shades of green and grey, It could be suggested that Jennifer has taken this concept and made it her own and added popping colour.
