EMP - Binding my own Books!

[[posterous-content:pid___1]]I have decided to bind my books my self! I am very excited about this; I am ready to get going something practical within my work. I will be having the help from a friend who is also binding her book; we will do it together for support.

As a design choice I have decided to perfect bind my book, I am doing this because it is a clean finished way of binding and its not overly difficult. We have been researching into how we can bind our books, asking our self’s the questions

-What do we need?

-How do we get started?

-Will there be enough time? considering the nearing deadline

To answer most of these questions we headed to YouTube tutorial. One of the best ways to learn something quickly and its very accessible on the Internet. We found this video of this man who showed how to perfect binding, step-by-step. We learnt a lot from this video, it was very handy that we had the option to pause and rewind the video easily.

These videos are of a tutor teaching a class how to perfect bind, he has clear instructions.

So as an introduction to binding we thought it would be best if we hand a test run, to make up a mock-up. This mock-up would give us the chance to perfect our binding technique. What do I need to bind?

-Hard board

-Book paper

-Thicker cover, compensate for width and spine

-2 dog clips

-Thread

-Glue

-Hair dryer

-Binding mesh

-Pencil

-Mental ruler

- Cutting mat

-Scalpel

-Folding bone

Here are some photos of a group of us in the process of making our books and my finished result. I am glad I took the time to make a text mock-up, now I know what is expected.
